This is a monastery on Provincial Highway 28. Its expansive grounds cover over 720 acres. The main building is divided into front hall, middle hall and rear hall. The roof is covered in goldplated glass tiles, giving it the splendor of a royal palace. In the sunshine the light reflects in all directions, creating a beautiful sight. The white jade Buddha statue in the temple was made from the biggest piece of white jade in Asia.
The table on which the three statues stand is made of wood from an old year old camphor tree. The statues are so heavy they are supported on bases, with the table built around them. The altar is so big it was once included in the Guinness Book of records.

【Cishan Old Streets】
Cishan District has prospered from its sugar refining industry in the early days. It is a special tourist attraction known for its sweet smelling bananas and Baroque architecture. Constructions, such as the stone arches of pavilions, along Jhongshan Road are in Baroque style, which was very popular during Japanese rule. Tourists interested in architecture could visit the Chishan Seminary, also known as St. Joseph’s Church, on Deyi Street. Designed by Father and completed in 1950, the Seminary is an elaborate construction in the Gothic style.
